The North Carolina Board of Law Examiners with the
assistance of the National Conference of Bar Examiners has prepared the
application in electronic format (NCBE Online Character and Fitness
Application). Although the Application is an electronic application,
applicants must PRINT the completed application and
THE ORIGINAL APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED IN DOUBLE-SIDED FORMAT. The application MUST BE SIGNED AND PROPERLY NOTARIZED, with the HANDWRITING SAMPLE(question 47) completed, and filed in duplicate, the original plus a good photocopy. "Original" means a double-sided copy bearing the applicant's original handwritten signature plus the original notarization. The Notary must affix the PROPER SEAL OR STAMP as well as his or her original signature on all documents requiring notarization. REPRODUCED COPIES OF THE APPLICATION FORM NOT BEARING THE ORIGINAL HANDWRITTEN SIGNATURE AND ORIGINAL NOTARIZATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AS THE ORIGINAL. You are required to submit a new on-line application each time an application is filed. DO NOT COPY and resubmit a previous application, it will not be accepted. Attachments do not have to be filed in duplicate. Any application with a date prior to 4/06 will NOT be accepted.
PLEASE NOTE that common ERRORS THAT WILL CAUSE AN APPLICATION TO BE REJECTED include (but are not limited to) failure to sign the application, failure to have the signature properly notarized, failure to sign and have notarized the authorization and release forms, failure to answer all questions including the HANDWRITING SAMPLE(question 47), and failure to include proper payment. These errors will not necessarily be detected by the Board's staff until after the filing deadline has passed, even if an application is filed early. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that the application is complete and in proper form prior to the deadline. Late detection of errors by the Board will NOT extend the filing deadlines.
When
the print dialog box pops up, make sure the Page Scaling option is set to
"Fit to paper" or "Shrink large pages." If Page Scaling is
not set properly, your Case ID number may not print below the bar code on each
page. This Case ID number below the bar code is required for the NCBLE
to process your application.
PLEASE
NOTE THAT YOU ARE REQUIRED TO REGISTER AND OBTAIN A NEW PASSWORD FOR EACH
APPLICATION FILED. IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY FILED AN APPLICATION TO TAKE THE
NC BAR EXAM AND ARE NEEDING TO RE-FILE AN APPLICATION YOU MUST COMPLETE
THIS PROCESS AGAIN.
